What is Elden Ring?

Ring of EldenSource: Bandai Namco

Elden Ring is FromSoftware’s latest action RPG adventure, bringing many of the mechanics and systems from Dark Souls into an open world format. More than any previous FromSoftware game, Elden Ring will emphasize exploration and go outside the box to find unique weapons, powerful spells, hidden bosses, and other exciting secrets.

Like the Dark Souls games before it, Elden Ring places a heavy emphasis on using stamina to block, parry or dodge incoming attacks, as well as using light and heavy melee attacks, swings dagger or magic spells to deal damage to enemies and bosses. Elden Ring also features new mechanics including a day/night cycle, dynamic weather systems, stealth systems, item crafting, and more. Players will even be able to explore the open world on a mount and will be able to mount their mount into battle in many locations.

Elden Ring will also feature multiplayer gaming experiences, including the ability to summon other players for cooperative play and the ability to invade other players’ worlds for PvP as well. Special “alliances” that allow players to choose a unique role in multiplayer gameplay also exist; for example, we are planning for players to be able to join a “Blue Sentinels” group that will automatically summon them to a player’s world to defend it against invaders.

When creating a character, players will be able to choose from a wide variety of different Elden Ring classes. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses; for example, the Astrologer will be a powerful mage with a lot of Intelligence for sorcery damage but low health, while the Wanderer is more of a close-range brawling class that has high armor, strength, and health, but few options for ranged combat. As players travel through the world of Elden Ring, they level up and can increase any stat they want, regardless of the class they have chosen. This freedom allows players to double the benefits of their starting class and create specialized characters or improve other stats and become hybrid characters (e.g. a strength/faith hybrid character will master both weapons strength and incantation spells). Players can further enhance their character by upgrading their weapons and armor, allowing them to do more damage or reduce incoming damage, respectively.
