Retirees from all over India are required to submit their life certificates as soon as the deadline has been set for November 30 of this year. While the window to submit their proof of life has already opened for retirees over 80 on October 1, the same will be true for those under 80 on November 1. life. This in turn ensures that the retiree continues to receive his pension without any problems. It also helps the retiree’s workplace to stop paying the pension upon death.
Life certificates, also known as Jeevan Pramaan Patra, must be presented to an authorized distributor or pension agency, such as the bank or the post office. There are many ways to present a certificate of life. As a general rule, the pensioner who wishes to present his certificate of life must be present in person in front of the disbursing body to issue the document. However, to make life easier for the elderly, the Center has developed Digital Life Certificates (DLCs), which are considered sufficient proof for the payment of pensions. The digital life certificate, which uses biometric details to be generated, has been particularly useful in obtaining proof of life. It was launched by the Indian government in November 2014.
Prerequisites for the digital life certificate
A retiree must meet certain prerequisites if they wish to submit a digital life certificate. A retiree must have an Aadhaar number, registered mobile number, supported biometric device to scan fingerprints, personal computer with Windows 7.0 and above or Android 4.0 and above mobile / tablet. Apart from this, retirees must have registered their Aadhaar number with the Pensions Payment Agency.
Steps to Submit a Digital Life Certificate
The retiree must first download the Jeevan Pramaan mobile app in order to register for the process. Here, the applicant must submit their Aadhaar number, pension payment order, bank account number, bank name and mobile phone number. This portal uses the Aadhar platform for biometric authentication and the applicant must submit their fingerprint for identification.

After the retiree has submitted all the details, they will send an SMS to the registered cell phone number, which has the ID of the life certificate. After that, the life certificate can be accessed by providing the ID. To download a pdf version, the retiree must connect to the Jeevan Pramaan portal. He can also check the status of the Digital Life Certificate by downloading the pdf version of the document. It can be accessed at any time by the user or the pension payment agent with the ID of the certificate of life.
How to scan fingerprints to submit digital life certificates
To scan fingerprints, you must first purchase one of the UIDAI compatible biometric devices. These include devices from Mantra, Startek, Morpho, Biomatics, TATVA and Precision. The full list is available on the pmjay.gov.in website. After purchasing any of the above devices, the retiree needs to connect it to the computer or cell phone to get the fingerprint scan.
Life certificates can also be submitted by going to the nearest bank branch, post office or workplace and submitting a completed form. This is the most common method of submitting the document, despite the introduction of newer and seemingly practical means.
The life certificate or Jeevan Pramaan can also be submitted through the Doorstep Banking Alliance or Postman at Home service. In home banking service, which is an alliance of 12 public sector banks, the retiree needs to download the home banking app and book the service. An agent will then go to the retiree’s home to get the details and complete the process. Likewise, the home mailman service is an idea of ââthe Post Office and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technologies (Meity).
