Due to the sale of Wordle, some people are worried about losing the game.

Almost everyone I know (including myself) plays wordle every day. It’s fun and addictive word puzzlein which you get six tries for guess a five letter word, assisted by green and yellow tiles that show you how many letters you get correct. You can play one round each day and then share your results on social media. Or if you’re feeling extra, you can wear your Wordle sheet music around your neck.

The game has become larger than life, that’s why the New York Times recently acquired Wordle for a low, undisclosed seven-figure price. And while that’s not bad news per se, there are fears that the subscription news site will soon be hiding the game behind a paywall.

In one statement posted on TwitterJosh Wardle, creator of Wordle, said: “When the game moves to the NYT site, it will be free to play for everyone, and I’m working with them to make sure your wins and streaks are preserved. “

However, if you’re still worried about losing your daily dose of Wordle, there’s a way to keep playing for free – forever. (Well, maybe closer to five more years of daily words.)

twitter user Aaron Rieke recently posted a thread explaining how Wordle works entirely in your web browser. Technically, you don’t need internet to play Wordle, because all future daily words of the game are included directly in the webpage. If you download all parts of the Wordle site, you could theoretically play Wordle every day for years without an internet connection; the game only needs your device’s current date to come up with a new word puzzle.

Here’s how to download Wordle to your computer or smartphone so it’s free to play no matter what.

How to download Wordle to your computer

Whether you use Mac or Windows, or whatever web browser you use (Chrome or Safari, for example), you can easily download Wordle to your computer.
