Meta partners with Microsoft to bring Windows games and apps to Quest Pro devices

Using the announcement of Quest Pro, its new $1,500 “premium” VR device, as an opportunity, Meta announces its intention to open the Metaverse to gaming enthusiasts as well as professional users interested in using the new VR accessory for conversing via Microsoft Teams with business partners. At the same time, Windows applications will be able to be adapted for VR interaction using hardware provided by Meta.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has also confirmed the adaptation of the Xbox Cloud Gaming service for streaming directly to Quest Pro devices, allowing subscribers who own the accessory provided by Meta to enjoy VR games using nothing more. than their Internet connection.

“We’re bringing the immersive experience of meeting on Microsoft Teams into the Meta Quest universe, giving users new ways to connect in the VR environment,” Nadella said, noting that custom avatars will eventually add to the experience. Horizon Workrooms, Meta’s VR collaboration space, will connect with Teams, he added, allowing people to join Teams meetings directly from Workrooms.

“Now you can connect, share and collaborate as if you were meeting in person,” Nadella added.

As for Windows support, Nadella said Microsoft 365 will be integrated with Meta Quest in a way that lets users interact with content from productivity apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

As for Xbox Cloud Gaming support on Meta Quest, game streaming will initially work on a 2D screen displayed in VR. Interaction will be done using existing Xbox controllers. However, Nadella hinted that additional features may be coming in the future.
